 Throughout my time in this class there have been many things that I have took into account when looking at my placement and reflecting on my placement. 

First of all when looking at the troublemakers article we read this goes right into my placement. The kid that I have worked at during my time at my school he has been labled as a troublemaker. He was a student that just does not like to do his work. Not that he can't do it he just simply was not motivated to do so. He is actually a very smart kid but he did not feel like there was any point to do his work. He would rather be socializing with his friends. After I started working with him this flipped. He enjoyed doing his work with me and we would have conversations while we did it. We learned about each other on a personal level and I think this simple thing goes a long way with students. It is one thing to know a student when they are in your classroom but sometimes it is hard for a teacher to get to know a student on a personal level. As a future teacher that is what I want to do. 

Another reading that stuck with me was Aria. This one was about a boy who had to learn English to be able to go to school. His parents did not know any English so it was becoming hard for them to communicate. This boy that I work with is fluent in both English and Spanish.  He told me that he speaks both English and Spanish at home with his older brother.  I think that it is a really good thing for him to know both languages. It can only benefit him in the future.

The last thing was the classroom tour video. This is because this is a way a teacher can express themselves throughout their classroom. This way their students can feel welcomes and be organized in a classroom which I think is very important. The teacher in the video put posters of her favorite things, some educational posters, and she also had some of her students work on the walls. I think it was cool she had her students work on the walls because it shows that she appricates the hard work they do which I think is important and positive reinforcement.

 The two videos we watched and the reading we did all tie in together. In the video and reading by Lisa Delpit she argues that teachers must recognize and understand cultural differences to give all students better opportunities to succeed in school. She explains how educators can shift from seeing all children as the same to perceptively seeing and understanding cultural and ethnic differences. It is important to keep that diversity in your classroom and make all students feel welcomed. Blog #9 Eliminating Ablism in Education

 ​ "Eliminating Ableism in Education" is an article by Thomas Hehir,  Hehir defines ableism as "the devaluation of disability" leading to societal attitudes that uncritically prefer, for example, walking over rolling, speaking over signing, reading print over Braille, spelling independently over using a spell-check, and socializing with nondisabled peers over disabled peers.  Hehir talks about how ableist practices have historically affected the education of deaf students, students who are blind or visually impaired, and students with learning disabilities, particularly dyslexia.   He argues that these ableist assumptions not only reinforce existing prejudices but may also contribute to lower educational attainment and employment levels among disabled individuals.  ​Thomas Hehir’s  “ Eliminating Ableism in Education ”  also argues education systems often unconsciously devalue students with disabilities by enforcing norms that prioritize typical ways of...

 In the Preface and introduction of Kyla Shalaby’s  Troublemakers, the author talks about different lessons in Freedom from Young Children at School  explores how schools often misunderstand and marginalize students labeled as "troublemakers." In the  Preface  and  Introduction , Shalaby sets the stage by questioning traditional discipline methods and arguing that children who challenge authority are not inherently problematic but rather reflect deeper issues within the education system. Shalaby introduces her motivation for writing the book which is her deep concern for children who are repeatedly labeled as "problems" in school.
