Blog #2 - Big Picture The Culture of Power Delpit, Barnga, and "The Tiger Goes Wild"

The two videos we watched and the reading we did all tie in together. In the video and reading by Lisa Delpit she argues that teachers must recognize and understand cultural differences to give all students better opportunities to succeed in school. She explains how educators can shift from seeing all children as the same to perceptively seeing and understanding cultural and ethnic differences. It is important to keep that diversity in your classroom and make all students feel welcomed. If you have prrejudice and stereotypes in a classroom it can her the students education.

In the kids video "The Tiger Goes Wild", it shows an entertaining and captivating children's book to age-appropriately communicate difficult social justice themes. It inspires kids to accept their individual identities and to think critically about the world around them. I think that it is important to learn and be educated on this topics. That way as a future teacher you can keep a welcoming classroom for all students no matter what their background is.

  2. I think that breaking each student down and truly understanding each of them for who they are is very important as a teacher to better connect with each of your students! Making your classroom welcoming and safe for all students no matter who they are. Good job!
